The establishment of the Museum was possible thanks to the generous donations started from the year 2000, stimulated by the presence of the local Embroidery School.
Initially, donations included artifacts from distinguished families of Foligno and Spello, later extending to the entire area of Perugian, Umbrian and national textile production.
The Museum boasts a heritage of nearly a thousand pieces, made with various types and techniques, and identifies as a place where to safeguard the textile craft tradition.
The Museum is organised into four thematic sections:
Women’s fashion: the clothes and accessories on display are a cross-section of the history of fashion in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Underwear: a collection of very fine undergarments of different manufactures, including petticoats, corsets, bonnets, camisoles, bloomers, and handkerchiefs.
Household linen: artifacts embellished with embroidery in white and coloured threads, with garlands and bouquets of flowers, cross-stitch borders and threads, butterfly medallions and monograms.
Children’s clothing: bonnets, bibs and prams highlight the evolution of children’s fashion and its transformations.
