Among the village’s characteristic alleys signs of its Roman origin are preserved, including the walls and the ancient gateways. Also of interest are the palaces from the Renaissance period and the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Maggiore.
Spello is also home to one of Umbria’s most extraordinary archaeological discoveries, the “Villa of Mosaics”, a Roman monumental complex of considerable size in which multi-coloured mosaic floors of remarkable beauty are preserved.
